Marianne Cufone

Marianne Cufone is an environmental attorney and long-time conservation and healthy affordable food advocate. Her expertise is in natural resources management, focused on oceans, fisheries, threatened species, food and farming. Over the past 20 years, she challenged, and collaborated in writing and passing many significant federal, state and local policies and laws. She litigated important environmental cases, and represented various non-profit and community groups, providing legal, policy and communications support.

At Loyola, Marianne runs the Environmental Law Program, including overseeing the J.D. Certificate, LL.M. and Master of Environmental Law (MENV) degrees. She teaches experiential courses, including the Environmental Policy Lab, in which students work on social justice initiatives for non-profit or community clients; a two-week intensive Environmental Law and Policy course in the Florida Keys, which offers an overview of the environmental laws, policies, and decision-making processes, specifically related to coastal and marine resources in the United States, using the Florida Keys ecosystem as a micro study; a January term two-week intensive course on Environmental Justice and Equity in and around New Orleans; and Environmental Litigation: Theory and Practice, a mock trial advocacy course on environmental practice.

Marianne is the founder and Executive Director of the Recirculating Farms Coalition, a national non-profit organization that promotes building innovative, eco-efficient farms to grow more affordable, local, fresh food. She also leads a unique virtual environmental law firm, Green Justice, that takes on complicated cases by pairing individual lawyers of specific expertise with law students, to lower costs and make legal representation more accessible.

Marianne appears in print, television, radio, and other media, is published in various magazines and professional works, and testified before Congress. She is a graduate of Boston College and the University of Miami, and is a member of the Florida Bar and the Middle District of Florida, the Louisiana Bar and the Middle and Eastern Districts of Louisiana, U.S. District Court of D.C., and the U.S. Supreme Court.
